Joe has retrieved rare sea creatures from the depths of the Arctic Ocean for NOAA. He and his crew found historic vessels, including John Cobb’s Crusader in Loch Ness and the long-lost World War II Grunion submarine in the Aleutian Islands. He has also worked on expeditions sponsored by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and National Geographic.

Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Cal Poly SLO. As an engineer at Lockheed Missiles and Space for eight years, he participated in designing sub-sea navigation systems as well as other projects. When not flying ROVs, he enjoys flying single and multi-engine airplanes, as well as sculling and supervising the activities of his three daughters.
